Roku gets DISH international programming -- without the dish




Roku users can now stream satellite TV's international shows without a dish, thanks to a partnership between the streaming platform and DISH Network's overseas programing.

The companies announced a deal today that launches the DISHWorld service on Roku's streaming platform in the U.S. The new programing has more than 50 international programming channels including the leading Hindi, Arabic, Urdu, Bangla and Brazilian channels, according to a press release. But, Roku users will have to subscribe to DISHWorld if they don't already have a DISH subscription, according to DISH. Plans start at $19.99 per month.

Currently, the programing is available for Roku 2 and Roku LT players, and expected to expand to the Roku HD player this summer.

  1. Let me tell you, the service is the best thing they could have come up with. I’m sad to say I didn’t know about the former internet international service Dish had even though I work there, but I got this for my wife since we had a Roku already. The PFC and Globo TV channels look good in standard definition on our big screen TV, but we still need our 200 HD channels we get from Dish for the stunning quality we get. The kids watch a lot of National Geographic, Discovery and Animal Planet and we like that it is educational for them, which looks so fantastic in HD on our 1080p TV. Sometimes I think I’m right there in the Antarctic with them.
